The president has for years touted the conspiracy theory that the United States experiences massive voting fraud. After his voting fraud commissioned after not being able to… find any voting fraud… state officials in Florida have concluded their search for fraudulent voting in the state’s 2018 elections. They found zero cases.
The president has “ordered” states to allow churches to reopen this weekend and he would “override” any governors keeping restrictions in place. He has no such legal authority. When asked multiple times what authority the president has in the matter, Press Secretary McEnany was unable to provide one and eventually resorted to attacking the press, saying they did not want churches to open. Reuters’ Jeff Mason pushed back saying he was a churchgoer. McEnany did not address his point and pivoted to Trump “celebrating the first amendment.”
Multiple large companies have taken advantage of PPP loans due to a loophole that considers them a small business as long as they don’t have more than 500 employees at any single location. This allows huge restaurant and hotel chains to secure the loans. While Shake Shack returned theirs after some backlash, most have not. Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse received a $20 million loan. The company was sitting on $86 million in cash reserves before the loan and recently spent $5 million on stock buybacks. (Fault here is with both Congress and the Executive Branch)
Director of the National Trade Council, Peter Navarro, said his economics PhD qualified him to read statistical data about chloroquine in response to a question of why he thought he knew more about the drug’s efficacy than Dr. Anthony Fauci who has spent decades studying infectious diseases. Despite Navarro’s claim, there is still no evidence the drug is useful in treating Covid-19.
Kayleigh McEnany will replace Stephanie Grisham to become Trump’s fourth press secretary. McEnany recently said that because of Trump we would not see Covid-19 come to the US which she welcomed as a great change from the “awful Obama administration.” She has lied repeatedly in service of the president and like Trump and his new Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, McEnany is a birther who has championed the disproven conspiracy theory that Barack Obama was born in Kenya.
